Stumbled across Trophywife this morning and I’ve been listening to them all day. Heavy and catchy, just awesome stuff! They make me think of  a more aggressive Eleventh he Reaches London, while the vocals are clearly reminiscent of La Dispute . I really enjoy both of those bands so Throphywife receives twice the love.

Say hello to my current obsession, Lions!  The album I am going to share with you today is No Generation, released in 2007.

The album kicks off in style, knocking you back with a dark dose of string-fueled dissonance.  As it unfolds, Lions seem to branch out a lot and experiment with plenty of different sounds but still manage to secure the distinguished composure and appeal of every damn song. Each of them is loaded with raw emotion and awesome hooks.

While I do not think anyone can claim that their sound is unique or revolutionary in any way, I believe that they mix their influences remarkably well.

P.P.S. Hopefully, this year, I will find more time to post. Until now, I’ve been pretty much caught between college and raging at my teammates in League of Legends.

I don’t think they need any introduction, so I’ll just go through the motions quickly for anyone who hasn’t heard about them yet. Based in Boise, Idaho, fronted by Doug Martsch (who has a unique voice, mind you, a voice you can always recognize), formed in 1992, they play catchy indie rock, sometimes happy, sometimes sad and melancholic, but always full of feeling. They have a bunch of songs you can easily fall in love with. And this has been the case with their latest album, There Is No Enemy, at least for me. I feel I can really identify with what Doug is singing about.

So anyway, here’s a preview of the 2009 album There Is No Enemy and the download link is below. They have 6 more studio albums out, if you’re interested. And I can’t stress this enough, each of these 7 albums deserves at least one good listen. Trust me on this.

So, yesterday, my buddy Bogdan showed me this video:

I had never listened to Grouplove before, but I instantly fell in love with the band. They’re currently opening gigs for Florence and the Machine, but they might actually be better. Their story is this: Hannah Hooper and Christian Zucconi met and became friends, then they went to Greece and randomly met the other 3 guys that are now part of their band. And then they went back to the U.S. of A., namely Los Angeles, California. And they recorded their EP which I am totally going to share with you.

Think of a combination between Colour Revolt and Modest Mouse mixed with a bit of summer and a bit of fun in the sun and a bit of surfing that perfect wave and you’ll get Grouplove. And here you go, a mediafire download link for their 2010 self-titled, self-released EP. Highly recommended!

The Suffocation Keep! Brett Nelson’s side project. In case you didn’t know, Brett Nelson plays bass in the awesome Boise, Idaho based indie rock band Built to Spill! So if you’re familiar with Built to Spill’s music, The Suffocation Keep will sound a bit similar. But different! I’m really tired and I can’t be arsed to write a proper description, but the album I’m going to share is worth at least one listen. Think fun, danceable, no-bullshit music. And, as last.fm puts it, “speckled with hooks [...] and wholly unpretentious”. S’all good, man. You must give it a shot, now.

Okay, so the album is called John Hughes Was Never So Wrong, it was released in 2002 and since then the band released another album which was (and still is) available on the interwebs for free. So don’t feel bad for downloading that one, feel bad for downloading this one. And I’ll feel bad for sharing it, but hey. This band deserves a lot more exposure. Today I bring you the Scottish band called Shitdisco. Sadly, the band does not exist anymore, but they did leave a pretty awesome album behind, namely Kingdom of Fear, the one I’m about to share. They used to call their genre disco-house/punk and I guess it’s pretty self-explanatory if you give them a listen. Very fun band from Glasgow! Perfect for drinking a couple of beers and jumping around. Here’s a preview of the album, in form of a YouTube vidya:

And today I will share not one, but TWO, that’s right, two bands you might or might not have heard of before.

There’s this Irish band called Avalanche Ammo and there’s this.. wait, these guys are Irish too, what the what? Anyway, there’s this other Irish band called Adebisi Shank. They both play energetic noisy instrumental rock, so if you like your music without silly vocals but cringe at the thought of another gloomy post-rock band with 20-minute long tracks, then give these guys a listen. They’re perfect for that occasional ‘study’ or ‘training’ montage or whatever dancing/prancing/jumping-around-the-house mood you might find yourselves in.

Ok, so. Avalanche Ammo have this EP called Animals which I’m going to share, I’m willing to bet they’re pretty new, cause it’s a 2011 release, so you’re getting in on the ground floor on this one!

Aaand Adebisi Shank have 2 albums out, both of which I’m going to share. I feel kinda bad for sharing both of their albums, but it’s exposure, so I guess any kind will do if it gets them more listeners. The albums are creatively called 2008′s This is the Album of a Band Called Adebisi Shank and 2010′s This Is The Second Album Of A Band Called Adebisi Shank. Awesome? You bet.

Hey guys, long time no see. I’ve been a lazy S.O.B. and I haven’t posted in.. let me just check.. mother of god. Almost one year. Oh well! Without further drama, let me just get to business.

Today I bring you two albums by the Brooklyn-based indie pop/rock band Palomar. I’ve known this band’s music for about 5 years or so. Every once in a while I go on a Palomar binge and listen to the 2007 album (All Things, Forests) over and over again and for some reason I never get bored. It’s so fun to listen to! Think of a more alert Strawberry Whiplash, Rilo Kiley, Architecture in Helsinki, you get the point.

Also, only listen to this if you like female vocalists. Actually, listen to it even if you don’t really enjoy female vocalists all that much, maybe you’ll find it as fun as.. dunno, whatever it is you enjoy listening to. It’s one of those summer-happy bands that fill you with joy.

By the way, before I post the links, I’ll just go ahead and mention the fact that I am missing two of the four albums these guys put out. Namely, 1999′s Palomar and 2002′s Palomar II. Yeah, both of the albums are self-titled. Ok, so here you go! 2004′s Palomar III – Revenge of Palomar and 2007′s All Things, Forests.
